Dentures and Bridges

Immediate denture

An immediate denture is a removable denture that is put in the mouth on the same day the remaining teeth are taken out.

With an immediate denture, you do not go without teeth while the gums heal. The dentist takes measurements and makes models of your jaw at a first visit, so the denture is ready when the teeth are removed. Cleveland Clinic says an immediate denture is a device you wear right after extractions. As the gums and bone change shape during healing, the denture often becomes loose and needs adjusting. A reline or a new denture may be needed later, and some people treat the first one as a temporary step. Your dentist will talk with you about the timing and what to expect. See complete denture and our dentures page.
