Dentures and Bridges

Partial denture

A partial denture is a removable appliance that replaces one or more missing teeth and attaches to the natural teeth that remain.

When some natural teeth remain, a partial denture fills the gaps. The ADA says removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases. Many have a metal framework and clasps that connect to your teeth. Others use more natural-looking connectors. A partial denture keeps teeth from shifting into the gap, and it helps with chewing and speaking. It may feel bulky at first, and it takes practice to put in and take out. You need to clean the denture and your natural teeth every day. A dental bridge is a fixed option, and a flipper is a short-term one. See our page on dentures.
