Implant abutment
An implant abutment is the small connector piece that screws onto a dental implant post and holds the crown, bridge, or denture above the gum.
A dental implant has three main parts. The post sits in the jawbone. The abutment attaches to the post and reaches just above the gum line. The crown, bridge, or denture then fits onto the abutment. Cleveland Clinic describes the abutment as a tiny connector post that screws into the threaded post and extends slightly beyond your gums. Abutments can be made of titanium, zirconia, or other materials. Some are stock parts, and some are made to fit your mouth. A healing abutment is a short version worn while the gum heals.
