Recall visit (checkup)

A recall visit is a regular return visit for a checkup and cleaning, set by your dentist based on your needs. Many people go twice a year.

A recall visit is a scheduled checkup and cleaning that your dental office asks you to return for. The timing depends on your risk. Some people do well with visits twice a year. People with gum disease or a high risk for cavities may need more frequent visits.

The ADA says regular dental visits help spot problems early, when treatment is likely to be simpler and more affordable. They also help prevent many problems from developing. Some diseases and medical conditions have symptoms that show up in the mouth first.

A recall visit often includes a dental exam, a cleaning, and X-rays only when your dentist thinks they are needed. See digital X-ray and oral hygiene. Your plan may limit how often it pays. See frequency limit.
