Fluoride treatment
A fluoride treatment is fluoride applied to the teeth at the dental office, usually as a varnish, gel or foam. It helps teeth resist decay.
Fluoride helps fight cavities by repairing the damage that acids can do to our teeth. A fluoride treatment is a dose of fluoride given by a dental team. A dentist or hygienist can give you a fluoride treatment during a routine dental exam or cleaning.
In the dental office, a dentist can apply fluoride varnish or gel. Typically, a fluoride treatment takes less than five minutes. Both children and adults benefit from fluoride.
Fluoride from toothpaste and from community water also helps. See fluoride toothpaste and community water fluoridation. Your dentist can tell you how often fluoride treatments make sense for you. See also fluoride varnish and tooth decay.
