Endodontist
An endodontist is a dentist with extra training in the dental pulp and the tissues around the root tip. Endodontics is the recognized dental specialty that treats them.
Endodontics is one of the 12 dental specialties recognized by the ADA's National Commission. It is concerned with the dental pulp and the tissues around the root tip. An endodontist is a dentist who completed extra training in this area. The pulp is the soft center of a tooth with nerves and blood vessels.
Endodontists focus on diagnosing and treating pulp disease and injury, including through root canal therapy. Many general dentists also perform root canal treatment. A dentist may refer a complex case to an endodontist. This is a title for a specialty. It is not a title for Dr. Jon Copeland or Dr. Stephanie Copeland, who are general dentists.
