Cosmetic dentist
Cosmetic dentist is a common phrase for a dentist who does appearance-focused care. Cosmetic dentistry is not one of the dental specialties the ADA recognizes.
People use the phrase cosmetic dentist for a dentist who does care aimed at how teeth look, such as whitening, bonding, and veneers. Cosmetic dentistry is not a recognized dental specialty. The ADA's National Commission recognizes 12 specialties, and cosmetic dentistry is not among them.
The commission says not all areas in dentistry will satisfy the requirements for recognition and be granted specialty recognition. A general dentist can offer cosmetic services. The phrase is a description, not a license or credential.
