Braces
Braces are brackets bonded to the teeth and joined by a wire that is tightened over time to move teeth and correct a poor bite.
Braces use steady, gentle pressure to move teeth. The ADA says traditional braces realign teeth by applying pressure and usually consist of small brackets cemented to your teeth, connected by a wire that is periodically tightened. The brackets may be metal or tooth colored. Small rubber bands called orthodontic elastics are sometimes added to correct the bite. You must brush and floss with extra care around the brackets. After braces come off, you wear a retainer that holds the teeth in their new place. Braces can be worn by teens and adults. Your dentist will talk with you about your options.
