Basic services benefit
A basic services benefit is the plan tier for common repairs, such as fillings, extractions and root canals. Plans usually pay a smaller share than for preventive care.
Basic services are the second tier in most dental plans. NADP says they usually include fillings, extractions, root canals, and root planing. Some plans call them Class II, Group II, or Type B services. Plans differ, and some treat root canals as major services.
Plans often pay a lower share for basic care than for preventive care, so you pay more through coinsurance. A deductible often applies. The plan's annual maximum limits total payments across all tiers.
Check your own benefit summary to see where a service falls. A pre-determination can confirm it. Related services include dental fillings. Read the insurance and financing page for this office's information.
