Avulsed tooth (knocked-out tooth)
An avulsed tooth is a tooth knocked completely out of its socket. It is a dental emergency, and acting quickly raises the chance that it can be saved.
An avulsed tooth is one that is knocked out of its socket and often out of the mouth. Cleveland Clinic calls it a dental emergency. If you can, put the tooth back in its socket right away and call a dentist, because this raises the chance it can be saved.
MouthHealthy advises keeping a knocked-out adult tooth moist at all times. Try to place it back without touching the root. If that is not possible, put it between your cheek and gums, in milk, or in an ADA-accepted tooth preservation product. Then get to the dentist right away. Hold the tooth by the crown, not the root. Baby teeth are not replanted.
If the injury involved your head, seek medical care too. See tooth reimplantation, luxated tooth, and the emergency dentistry page.
