Molar
Molars are the large, flat teeth at the back of the mouth. They are your main chewing teeth, and they crush and grind food.
Molars are the teeth at the back of the mouth. They have broad, flat surfaces with several cusps. This shape makes them the main chewing teeth. They crush and grind food before you swallow.
Adults have up to 12 molars, including the four wisdom teeth. Molars do the heavy work of chewing. Your premolars sit in front of them.
Because molars have deep grooves, food and plaque can collect there and cause cavities. A dental sealant can cover those grooves. Large cavities in molars may be repaired with a dental filling or a dental crown.
